The primary purpose of the FIFA Code of Ethics is to establish standards of conduct for persons involved in organised football and to protect the integrity and reputation of the game. It applies to conduct not specifically addressed by other FIFA regulations where such behaviour damages the integrity of football or involves illegal, immoral or unethical actions.

Its main focus is to regulate behaviour connected to the field of play and, where relevant, conduct outside the field of play that may bring football into disrepute, including public or social media conduct. The Code applies to officials, players, FIFA-licensed match agents and football agents, among other persons bound by FIFA regulations.

The FIFA Ethics Committee is responsible for investigating and adjudicating conduct under the Code and may impose sanctions as provided for in the FIFA Code of Ethics, the FIFA Disciplinary Code and the FIFA Statutes. Students are expected to dedicate 5 hours of active study to this section.
